CITY OF FT. PIERCE MARINA

The Ft. Pierce City Marina is located on the Indian River Lagoon, a long and wide estuarine water body separated from the Atlantic Ocean by barrier islands on Florida’s southeast coast. In 2004, Hurricane Frances made a slow 34 hour approach toward the marina as a Category 2 hurricane. Out of 269 slips, the hurricane totally destroyed the 138 slip floating dock portion of the outer marina and incurred additional damage to the inner marina basin slips. The hurricane caused approximately $14. 9 million in damages to the boats and $13 million in damages to the marina facilities.

COACHES ISLAND / POPLAR ISLAND RESTORATION

Poplar Island, recently on the verge of disappearing, is now a national model for habitat restoration and the beneficial use of dredge materials. The US Army Corp of Engineers, has teamed with the Maryland Port Administration and other Federal and State agencies to restore Poplar Island using dredged material from the Baltimore Harbor and Channels Federal navigation projects. Just off the Chesapeake Bay coastline, about 34 miles south of Baltimore, Poplar Island is being returned to its former size and important ecological function while helping to ensure the economic vitality of the region. Approximately 68 million cubic yards of dredged material will be placed to develop 735 acres of wetlands, 840 acres of uplands and 140 acres of open water embayment. During the process of restoration, Coaches Island suffered from the changing currents due to the reformed Poplar Island. Coaches Island, an adjacent, privately owned island, was in need of beach protection and restoration.

Petronet LNG Ltd. terminal at Puthuvypeen, Kochi has a capacity of 5 MMPTA which meets the enormous demand of natural gas for power, fertilizers, petrochemicals and various other industries in southern states of India. Halting of ships at the receiving trestle was facing problem due to accumulation of enormous amount of silt in the trestle zone. The amount of money and time spent on dredging of accumulated silt in the vicinity of trestle was huge, besides being a repetitive activity. So, the main objective of the project was to provide long term solution for achieving required tranquility at the LNG Jetty, reduce siltation and protect beach from the erosion.
